Autumn Coats

1. Topshop | 2. eBay | 3. Zara | 4. Topshop | 5. Cow

With the cold weather settling in across the northern hemisphere, I took some time to compile a list of your new best friends for the coming season- some fabulous winter coats. These babies aren't just for keeping you warm... they're here to keep you looking good too, long into the winter months. By investing in a key winter coat this season, you'll have a solid piece to fall back on when the dark mornings settle in and you can barely see your own hand in front of your face, let alone your wardrobe! My favourites this season come from Topshop, Zara, H&M, eBay and of course, a healthy dose of Cow.

One of my favourite trends for this season are bright neons against blacks, dark blues and greys. They're the perfect addition to making your outfit 'pop' and instill a little colour into your life come the dark winter months! If you're feeling bold and brave, invest in a key block-colour piece like this lime green number from Topshop. Bang on trend, thick wool and minimalist tailoring make it a staple piece for any adventurous lady's wardrobe.

This little number from eBay (shock horror!) is a great coat for seeing you through from office to drinks after work as its stylish fur collar, nipped in waist and waved hem all scream sophistication. Its the key to looking feminine and staying warm at the same time by accentuating the waist and employing a fur neckline to ensure warmth and style. A steal from eBay- it would be criminal not to bag this piece this winter.

Another favourite trend of mine is a bold print and as any self-serving fashionista will know, monochrome is still HUGE in the style-stakes. This boyish coat from Zara provides one of the key looks of the season (tailoring) whilst adding a slightly punk edge in the form of a leather collar. Dress it up or down, this coat will make sure you get through the cold in style! Pair with a tight black polo neck, Chelsea boots and a vibrant neck-piece to stay bang on trend this season.

A great mix of styles, this Topshop number combines punk, tailoring and minimalism all in one with a chunky zip feature, shoulder pads and styling minimalism. Large pockets prove useful and handy when it comes to keeping your hands warm (or storing your Starbucks points card- Salted Caramel Mocha anyone?). With thick wool, expertly lined and a flawless finish, this coat would make anyone a great fall-back piece this season. For a punk look, pair it with a velvet midi, fishnets and chunky patent lace-up platforms.

Finally, any wishlist of mine wouldn't be complete without a contribution from my favourite vintage retailer, Cow. My inner bargain-hunter is aching from the lack of Cow in my life right now... fancy opening up a store in St Petersburg, guys? Luckily for me (and for you), they also sell their winter staples online, including this gorgeous leopard print coat. How can you go wrong with fur this season when it was being shown left, right and center for AW13. For a warm and stylish look this season, bag a bargain with Cow and you wont go far wrong.

I'm in St Petersburg, Russia for my year abroad as part of my degree programme. If you'd like to catch up on what I've been up to, head over to my year abroad blog- Where's Alexandra Waring?
